A 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six that revs to 9,000 rpm, offered with a six-speed manual at no extra cost.

Background

The 911 GT3 has been Porsche's road-going link to its GT racing cars for more than two decades. The 992.2 update keeps the formula: a naturally aspirated flat-six, rear-wheel drive and a choice of manual or PDK gearbox.

Engine

The 4.0-litre (3,996 cm³) flat-six makes 502 hp (510 PS, 375 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) at 6,250 rpm, and revs to 9,000 rpm. According to RennDriver, it shares its architecture with the 992 GT3 Cup race car and is carried over unchanged from the 992.1.

What changed for 992.2

The update adds GT3 RS aero details as standard, front springs that are 10% stiffer, updated headlights and front styling, and a new Weissach Package option. The six-speed manual costs nothing extra and is 37 lb lighter than the PDK.

On the road

Car and Driver says the 992 GT3's biggest performance upgrade is its control-arm front suspension, a first for a production 911, and praises its steering and cornering grip. It also notes the ride is firm on poor roads. Porsche quotes 0–60 mph in 3.2 s with PDK and 3.7 s with the manual, with a top track speed of 193 mph.

Market context

The 2026 GT3 starts at US$235,800. With rivals moving to turbos and hybrids, it is now one of very few high-revving, naturally aspirated, manual-gearbox cars on sale.

A GT car for the road

Porsche's GT department builds the race cars that compete in one-make Cup series and endurance racing. The road-going GT3 has always been the most direct link between those cars and the showroom.

Engine pedigree

According to RennDriver, the flat-six shares its architecture with the 992 GT3 Cup race car and was developed by Porsche's GT racing engineers before being adapted for road use. It is direct-injected with DOHC and 24 valves.

Manual matters

The six-speed GT Sport manual is a no-cost option and weighs 37 lb less than the PDK. Few cars at this level still offer a manual, and the GT3's three-pedal option is a big part of its appeal. With the manual, 0–60 mph takes 3.7 s.

Track credentials

RennDriver reports a Nürburgring lap of 6:52.981 with the Manthey kit. A Touring version swaps the fixed rear wing for a more discreet look with the same mechanical package.

The verdict

The 911 GT3 keeps natural aspiration, a manual gearbox and high revs alive in 2026, and backs them with real track performance. That makes it our 2026 Exotic Naturally Aspirated winner.

The rivals

Naturally aspirated rivals are now rare at this level. Most competitors from Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini use turbocharged or hybrid engines. Among Porsche's own range, the GT3 RS is the more track-focused option.

Who it suits

It suits drivers who do track days but also drive on the road, and who value the sound, response and involvement of a high-revving engine and a manual gearbox. Buyers should expect a firm ride on poor roads, as Car and Driver notes.

Our judging notes

The panel looked for the most complete naturally aspirated car on sale in 2026, and the GT3 combines that engine with track ability and a manual gearbox. Ferrari won this category in 2025, and we wanted a different, equally deserving winner for 2026.

Reading the numbers

Peak power at 8,500 rpm and a 9,000 rpm limit show how much this engine is built around high revs. A 193 mph top track speed on summer tyres, 3.2-second 0–60 with PDK and a Nürburgring time under seven minutes with the Manthey kit show the performance is real, not just on paper.

Options

Buyers can choose between the winged GT3 and the more discreet GT3 Touring, PDK or manual, and add the new Weissach Package. A limited 90 F.A. Porsche edition was also offered.

Chassis

The GT3 keeps double-wishbone front suspension derived from motorsport, rear-axle steering and a lightweight body with carbon parts. The car is built to be driven on track at weekends and driven home afterwards.

Specification breakdown

Why it won

In the 992.2 update Porsche kept the GT3 naturally aspirated, rear-drive and available with a manual gearbox. It added GT3 RS aero details, stiffer front springs and a new Weissach Package, and the 4.0-litre flat-six still produces 502 hp at a 9,000 rpm redline.
