Yamaha's first production electric road model for India: a 4 kWh fixed battery, 160 km certified range and IP67 protection for motor and battery.
Background
Yamaha unveiled the EC-06 and AEROX-E in Mumbai on 11 November 2025 as its first electric vehicles for India. The EC-06 went on sale on 2 February 2026.
Design
Yamaha developed the EC-06 in India with a global outlook. It is an urban electric scooter with 24.5 L of under-seat storage, LED lighting, a colour LCD and a built-in telematics SIM.
Motor and battery
An IPMSM motor gives 4.5 kW rated and 6.7 kW peak power with 26 Nm of torque, fed by a 4 kWh fixed battery. Yamaha quotes a 160 km certified range. It charges from a standard home socket in about eight hours.
On the road
It has three riding modes plus reverse, 200 mm front and rear discs with a Combi Brake System, and IP67 protection for the motor and battery. Yamaha's launch release quotes a 79 km/h top speed, which suits city riding.
Market context
Priced at INR 1,67,600 ex-showroom Delhi, it is Yamaha's entry into one of the world's largest two-wheeler markets. Yamaha presents it as part of India's national electric-mobility goals.
Why India matters
India is one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world, and scooters are the backbone of urban transport there. Yamaha has made motorcycles in India for decades. Its first electric models there, the EC-06 and AEROX-E, were unveiled at its 70th-anniversary event in Mumbai on 11 November 2025.
Built for the city
The EC-06 is designed for daily commuting. It has 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, LED lighting and a colour LCD showing speed, battery status, riding mode and connectivity. A built-in telematics unit with a SIM provides real-time data.
Motor and battery
An interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) gives 4.5 kW rated and 6.7 kW peak power with 26 Nm of torque. The 4 kWh battery is fixed, not removable, and charges from a standard home socket in about eight hours. The battery has a three-year or 30,000 km warranty.
Weather-proofing
The motor and battery are IP67-rated and the other electronics IP65, which protects against monsoon rain and flooded streets.
Riding
There are three riding modes plus reverse, which helps when moving a scooter in tight parking. Braking uses 200 mm discs front and rear with a Combi Brake System. Yamaha's launch release gives a top speed of 79 km/h, while HT Auto reported 90 km/h, so we quote Yamaha's figure.
Market
Priced at INR 1,67,600 ex-showroom Delhi and sold through Yamaha's Blue Square showrooms in selected cities, the EC-06 enters a busy segment. Yamaha presents it as a contribution to India's National Mission on Transformative Mobility. The award is provisional.
The rivals
The Indian electric scooter market is busy, with established makers and new EV specialists competing on range, price and features. Reviewers such as Autocar India compared the EC-06 with the River Indie, and the reviews linked on this page cover those comparisons.
Who it suits
It suits urban commuters who can charge at home and want a weather-proof scooter with good storage, connectivity and the backing of a large established manufacturer.
Our judging notes
The panel weighed Yamaha's first entry into electric road vehicles in a major market, its practical specification and its protection against water and dust. The 2026 On-road Electric award is provisional and may change.
Reading the numbers
The 4 kWh battery and 160 km certified range suit daily commuting with spare capacity, and charging overnight from a home socket fits most owners' routines. The 26 Nm torque gives brisk acceleration away from traffic lights.
Design and practicality
The EC-06 has generous under-seat storage and an LCD dashboard with smartphone connectivity, so the scooter is suited to city errands as well as commuting. It is built for India by River, an electric scooter company Yamaha has invested in.
Verdict
The EC-06 is a practical, affordable electric commuter from a trusted maker. Its award is provisional and will be confirmed once final 2026 judging is complete.
